Closeup and personal is a work about beauty and insecurities
"Closeup and personal" is a p5js project exploring the relationship between beauty, insecurities and camera filters. The project utilizes a camera filter that enables the user to control what parts of themselves they want to show, which can make them feel comfortable in front of the camera, they have a chance to "randomize" the position of the camera and then adjust it to their comfort. The code includes many squares that display the live video, with the buttons and sliders that allow the user to adjust position and movement. The project then allows people to save their picture.
I decided to do this filter because I am someone that is uncomfortable in front of a camera. I do not like my picture taken. So I was thinking of a way in which I would feel more comfortable, and that is by controlling which sides of me I want to show that day. It is completely valid to not like so much your hair one day and decide to put a hat on, the same with cameras, it is fine to play which sides you want to show, because anyways, that picture will never reveal who you are 100%. So why suffer? Cameras are just a way to express ourselves and this is my way of doing it. Of course I believe that imperfections do not really exist, but while humans adopt that phrase and believe it to be true, there should be these type of works that allow people to feel comfortable and play around with themselves, also highlighting which parts of them they love more! Which I think is a confidence boost.
